Community Involvement and Charitable Giving:
Giving back is part of our heritage, which started in 1878 with our founder George Warren Brown, a noted philanthropist. Last year, contributions to charitable organizations by Brown Shoe, its divisions, subsidiaries, employees and consumers, through in-store programs, exceeded $2.5 million.
Brown Shoe’s Charitable Trust makes donations to non-profit organizations, and our current giving priorities are for education, arts and culture, civic efforts, and health and human services. Wherever possible, we seek to fund organizations and programs where we can form partnerships and make a difference by truly improving our communities.
Brown Shoe is an active participant in the footwear industry’s efforts to ensure workers’ rights globally. Our Production Code of Conduct provides a set of expectations for all of our suppliers and establishes minimum requirements for wage payments, working hours and benefits, freedom of association, nondiscrimination and respect, safety and health, protection of the environment, and compliance with local laws and industry standards.
